Kuoni’s new luxury European vacation
Kuoni reveals major expansion in luxury European vacations as it looks at short-haul growth for 2022.
It has long been famous for its luxury long-haul trips to places like the Maldives, the Caribbean and Thailand, but now Kuoni is putting a new emphasis on launching its larger line of luxury short-haul vacations.
The global travel company has spent the past few months selecting and outsourcing a new range of short-haul luxury resorts – spanning new cities and regions it had never sold before.
This strategic move is designed to strengthen Kuoni’s position for special occasion travel around the world, particularly honeymoons. About 30% of all Kuoni bookings for 2022 are for honeymoons, with many couples re-booking after wedding plans canceled due to lockdown restrictions.
Honeymoons and other special occasion trips are in demand for next year. Many people are saving and spending to make their memorable trip a memorable one, and a growing number of couples are seeking great experiences closer to home. The average value of honeymoon bookings has risen 13% from £ 7,985 in 2019 to £ 9,045 in 2022, as couples push the boat to make their trip memorable.
Multi-center ‘coast, culture and countryside’ itineraries in Europe with private transfers or car hire between sites is something Kuoni plans to step up, using its bespoke booking service and expert knowledge to create a vacation. ultra-specials that are not just flights. and flop.
Derek Jones, CEO of Kuoni said: “While short haul isn’t new to us, the size and scale of what we’ve created is and we think people will love it.
“It’s about differentiating what we do from traditional travel operators and adding value, creating something tailor-made for our customers that they can’t just book online. We’re seeing a growing demand for luxury short-haul travel and people want more than just a beach vacation. Our clients are looking for experiences, culture and places to stay on and off the beaten track. As part of our recovery plan, we will continue to be the specialist in special occasion travel around the world. “
In Italy, Kuoni introduced 12 new hotels with new options in Tuscany, including Siena for the first time, which is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy. Other Tuscan retreats have also been chosen to offer a mix of peaceful and off the beaten track experiences, from truffle hunting to cooking classes to create a vacation with a blend of urban culture and authentic Italian lifestyle.
Other new hotels have been added at Lake Garda, Verona and Palermo, the Sicilian capital.
31 more hotels have been added in other destinations across the Mediterranean.
The collection in Spain has grown significantly beyond the beach, with new options in Granada, Cordoba, Marbella and Estepona in Andalucia as well as luxury retreats on the islands of Mallorca and Ibiza.
In Portugal, new cities and regions have been added including Porto and the Douro Valley as well as Lisbon.
Greece, Malta, and Croatia all have something new, including boutique hotels, villas, and suites, to provide flexibility for larger groups and families.
Greece is now Kuoni’s second best-selling short-haul destination, with growing demand from couples and families. New luxury properties have been added in Rhodes, Crete, Corfu and Halkidiki, all of which have unique selling points ranging from wellness programs to locally sourced food.
Particular care has been taken in the selection of hotels with a sustainable ethic.
An example of community tourism history is the Casale Panayiotis in the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus, located in a former spa village. Rooms and suites are distributed in individual houses across the village with traditional menus created from foods grown locally in local communities. Experiences range from mountain walks to halloumi making and orchard tours to wine tasting.
