Marsh Madness: Monterey, Delta Charter and Ferriday reach LHSAA playoffs – Mississippi’s Best Community Newspaper

FERRIDAY — Three Concordia parochial schools made it to the LHSAA playoffs in boys’ basketball.

The first round of Marsh Madness begins Thursday night for Ferriday and Delta Charter, while Monterey plays Friday night at 6 p.m.

Delta Charter needed a win against Sicily Island to take a nine game losing streak. The Storm did just that to win 61-58. They made the LHSAA 1A playoffs as the No. 15 seed with an 11-18 record.

The Storm will host No. 18 Merryville on Thursday in the first round. Tipping for this game is set at 6 p.m. Storm head coach Ronald Ellis said it was good to get a win ahead of the playoffs and he has a Merryville movie.

“I’ll watch movies today and tomorrow and try to break them down. We’ll try to go out and play well,” Ellis said. “It feels good to get this win (on the island of Sicily). We had lost a few close games and a few blowouts. It was good to get a win to boost our confidence. Now, it doesn’t matter with the playoffs. If you lose, you’re done. You have to take one game at a time. »

Ferriday entered the LHSAA 2A playoffs with a 10-11 record. They will be the No. 29 seed and go to No. 4 Madison in the first round of the playoffs. The Jaguars are 25-2, so Trojan head coach Shaun Smith’s team has their work cut out for them.

Monterey made the LHSAA Class B playoffs as the No. 19 seed and went to No. 14 Stanley. They were 18-9 and could face No. 3 Zwolle if they beat Stanley.
