The best of Italian candles

Just today someone asked me what if i had to choose only one country to drink wine and of course my response was, as always, Italy. That’s not a hard answer today for me because it comes from having made a lot of painstaking sacrifices in order to narrow down my wine preferences to one country – When you’re in the wine business, it’s is a common question to ask what is your favorite wine Where which country makes the best wine so you have to be ready to answer!

For me, Italy offers some of the greatest examples of sparkling wines (Trendodoc and Prosecco) as well as some amazing reds (Barolo/Chianti). I’m not that big of a fan of white or rosé wines, but I know for many it ticks all the boxes with those too.

In the world of sparkling wine, Italy offers us a delight of choice, from the Prosecco tank method to the traditional method of Trentodoc and Franciacorta, to examples of triple fermentation that have amazed me in the Marche region .

Italy sits at the top of the world list of wine producing countries. Usually it’s a battle between France, Spain and Italy – although 2021 shows us 44,500 hectoliters to Italy.

Easy to understand classifications DOC and DOCG shows you the differences in quality of Well at superior quality. World famous regions include Piedmont, Abruzzo, Sicily, Umbria, Veneto, Sardinia, Calabria and additionally classics such as Prosecco, Trentodo, Barolo, Chianti tell you it’s is the land of wine. Italian sparkling wines

The wine magic of Italy for me is that it holds some of the best wine tourism destinations and for its good old spumante. Italy’s sparkling wine is offered by producers across the country, from white to red and varieties to suit all tastes and requirements. Perhaps its most famous name is that of Prosecco (627.5 million bottles of Prosecco DOC produced in 2021) which exports this well-known and appreciated fizz all over the world. From cheap bottles in supermarkets for under £6 to finer DOCG labels, giving us the likes of Asolo, Valdobbiadene Superiore and Cartizze.

Heading towards the foothills of the Alps (Dolomites) we see Thirty containing another classic of sparkling wines, the Trentodoc classification (traditional production method – Metodo Classico). A UNESCO World Heritage Site (along with Prosecco), the region is the most amazing wine tour – The Dolomites contain 18 peaks that rise to more than 3,000 meters and cover 141,903 ha.

Another classic among Italian sparkling wines is Franciacorta, from the Latin “franchae curtes”, which means “exempt from the payment of duties”. The area here is bliss for keen lake hikers/cyclists – It really is an area to memorize and such a lovely area to visit. Lake Iseo provides the terroir character of Franciacorta sparkling wine, with the wine region located just to the south.

There are countless other examples of regions and styles across Italy to explore, not to mention another of my favorite Italian wine regions of Marche which sees some of the best Italian red sparkling wines for me.
