The Falcons meet the Dogs in a Friday night showdown

Fresh off last week, a reloaded Awthorn squad will take on the Western Bulldogs in their first Friday night outing of the 2022 season.

It’s the first time these two teams have met since Round 22 last year, where the Hawks earned an impressive 27-point win.

Hawthorn will be without key defender Sam Frost after injuring his knee in the game against Fremantle.

In exciting news, the Hawks will welcome back Mitch Lewis after recovering from a knee injury, while James Worpel and Connor Macdonald are back after solid form in the VFL.

The match will mark Hawthorn’s first Friday night game in 2022 and only the second time at Marvel Stadium.

The last time we met

Hawthorn (64) beat Western Bulldogs (37) – Matchday 22, 2021

Hawthorn battled the Western Bulldogs in a windy game in Tasmania. The game started in wet and scrappy conditions, with the Dogs scoring the first and only goal of the first quarter.

The Hawks were dominant in the second term and with four consecutive goals in the third, the browns and golds led by 14 points at the final break.

The Hawks eventually adapted better to the scrappy affair provided by the wet and windy conditions, to go on and win against the mighty Dogs.

Daniel Howe, Jacob Koschitzke, Jai Newcombe, Tom Mitchell and Chad Wingard were all prolific in the win.

our last game

Fremantle (95) beat Hawthorn (82) – Matchday 13, 2022

Hawthorn took on ladder leaders Fremantle in a western showdown a fortnight ago, delivering a spirited performance.

The forward half-press was essential for the Hawks to earn a 10-point lead, with the brown and gold earning a 32-21 advantage in less than 50.

The Dockers watched at home with a 14-point margin last season, until Luke Breust scored his second with six minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Fremantle kept their cool by beating the Hawks by 13 points.

Both Jaeger O’Meara and James Sicily stepped up their roles hugely, with O’Meara finishing with a team record 30 eliminations and 9 clearances while Sicily were powerhouses in defense.

Alongside O’Meara and Sicily, Tom Mitchell, Dylan Moore, Conor Nash and Daniel Howe also dominated the day.
