The Outer Banks Voice – Dare County Library Series: Highlighting Local History

The Dare County Library has announced that the next local history program, the last in the library’s enrichment series for adults, will be “Millard Blackwell Creef: A Dare County War Hero.”

Samantha Crisp, who is director of the Outer Banks History Center, will present this hour-long program at noon on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, just in time for Memorial Day.

Millard Blackwell Creef, a native of County Dare, enlisted in World War II in August 1942. He was killed in Sicily in September 1943, becoming the first person from County Dare to die in action in World War II . Join Crisp on an exploration of Creef’s life and military service, as documented in his personal papers held at the Outer Banks History Center in Manteo.

Programs in this series are free to Dare County residents and property owners 18 years of age and older. however, registration is compulsory and the number of places is limited. Participants can register up to one hour before the start of the presentation.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING TO REVIEW PLANS FOR OUTSIDE BANKS EVENT CENTER

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Visitors Bureau will hold a public meeting to review plans for an Outer Banks Events Center. The meeting will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Keeper’s Galley building in Haven on the Banks, 115 Dove Street, Nags Head North Carolina 27959.

Still in the conceptual phase, the Events Center is intended to provide a suitable and flexible space for year-round events, concerts, sports, meetings, smaller trade shows, galas and many more. other uses. Learn more about visitor and resident benefits and how the event center is planned to complement the new Soundside Promenade being designed.
